Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode
The institute functions with support from the various departments of the Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode. The courses are organised with support of the Department of Psychiatry and the CDS functions in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics. The CDS depends on the Departments of ENT, Ophthalmology and neurology for specialty consultations.
Govt. agencies
IMHANS undertake collaborative projects with various Govt. agencies and non-Government agencies. The community mental health programs are organised with support from the national health mission (NHM). Local self Govt. bodies (LSG) in Kasargode, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode also support the mental health programs.
IMHANS collaborate with the Kerala Social Security Mission and the State Initiative on Disability (SID) in projects for children with disabilities. The Community Developmental Disability Project is supported by the SID. The District Psychiatric Rehabilitation Project (DPRP) was implemented with support from the Social Justice Department. The new building for the rehabilitation centre in the GMHC campus is constructed with financial support from the KSSM and NHM.
People’s initiatives
Several voluntary agencies and people’s initiatives are actively involved in the community activities of IMHANS. ‘Santhwanam’ and Kozhikode Initiative in Community Mental Health (KIMH) in Kozhikode district, Malappuram Initiative in Community Psychiatry (MIP) in Ma-lappuram district and ‘Athaani’ in Wayanad district are support groups involved in community psychiatry programs in the respective districts. The palliative care networks in Malappuram and Kozhikode districts support IMHANS in organizing community mental health clinics. IMHANS provides technical support to the Prasanthi centre for developmental disabilities in Patheerankavu, Kozhikode.
